Part 2: Grandma's sage advice and igrandparents.com
What grandmotherly advice would you give to all those Internet marketing gurus who see the Internet as only a "youth based culture?"
I know that those who think the Internet is a "youth based culture" are fooling themselves and are losing out on a tremendous market of valuable consumers. They would help themselves tremendously by rethinking their marketing campaigns, etc. to include and look to attract this very valuable and important Internet demographic group.
You also have a very fruitful partnership with iGrandparents.com. How did that come about?
I was contacted by iGrandparents at the beginning of the year 2000 for a possible merger. My son Marty and I felt very strongly that this would be a good partnership since it would combine our goals of a site that would be most interesting and beneficial to all Seniors and Grandparents. So I joined iGrandparents in April 2000.
What advice would you give to people who think they're too old to learn about this newfangled technology called the Internet?
I feel that I'm a very great inspiration to seniors and grandparents since I'm a living, breathing example of a senior and grandparent who didn't know "Internet from Schminternet."
I am constantly encouraging Seniors and Grandparents to buy a Web-TV or computer and become part of the fantastic Internet Community. I've gotten so many positive messages from people who have taken my advice and joined Cyberspace.
Finally, what is the best thing about being 70, Internet savvy, and the undisputed "Grandma of the Internet?"
The best thing about being 70 and Internet savvy, and about GrandmaBetty.com and GrandmaBetty's Corner is that I can reach out and help so many people.
It has been so gratifying to get e-mails from hundreds and hundreds of people who ask where they can find information on the Internet about their problems or needs and I've been able to assist.
As an example, one of the first e-mails I ever received (which I will always treasure) was from a lady who had bladder cancer. She wrote me that she had looked through the whole Internet and found the information she was looking for on my site, and thanked me so very much! I felt blessed! I am so fortunate to be able to tell you that at 70, I LOVE WHAT I'M DOING!
We're all fortunate to have such a great Internet Grandma too!
