On Money Following Passion...

Identify the content needs of your audience. Fill the content need - hire it, contract it, buy it, whatever... and THEN secure the sponsor. - Richard Kies, Aginfonet.

I always tell people to be sure they really want to create Web content and do a lot of writing and interacting with people through email, chat, and the Forums. Be sure they have a flexible schedule and are willing to work for at least a year with very little income, just as with any start-up business, because that's what this is. Don't do it for the money! - Brad Lang, Classic Movies.

On the Value of Time...

Appreciating the value of your own time is a lesson I've learnt the hard way. - Mark Brownlow, Science.komm.

I really see the opportunities as boundary-less. But, like with anything else, you must determine your goal and focus your efforts. Failing to do so can waste a lot of your time -- which most people don't have an abundance of. - Denise O'Berry, What's Possible.

On Technology Not Being Everything...

What we do is to provide the tools for people to do their jobs more efficiently, with less manpower, and to be able to accomplish things they otherwise couldn't by using technology. And the way to do that is to put a human face on that technology, so that the end user can accept it without becoming a computer expert. So ideally, your IT staff are diplomats, they're the go-betweens from the computers and networks to the end user. - Andrew Hartsock, The Knowledge Capital Group.

The main challenge is the initial commitment, understanding that the Internet is a strategic issue and therefore a management task and not one for the IT department alone. - Martin Knapp, imPlus Management Consulting.

On Having Fun...

Make sure you're in it for the fun, not just for the money! - Edwin Hayward, EmailAddresses.com

The single most successful approach for increasing visitors was to add fun to the site. - Barbara Petura, WorkingDogWeb.

We have a real light office atmosphere where joking around is not just our business, it's our way of life. - Aaron Zelins, FunnyMail.com.

And one line of advice for a would be affiliate? Buy the product, work like mad - and take time to smell the roses. - Allan Gardyne, AssociatePrograms.com.

The great thing is, like any other partnership, we've gotten to the point when our work is more than work - it's a fun lifestyle we've both created. - Jill Whalen and Heather Lloyd, Rank Write Roundtable.
